Case Details

Suit Reason :

Plaintiffs, the mother and sisters of a high school girl, filed suit against the New Orleans Parish School Board after their daughter/sister died at school from an asthma attack.

Award Reason :

The mother was awarded $50,000 for arriving shortly after her daughter's death. One of the girl's sisters was present with the girl through out the attack and was awarded $75,000 for the trauma of going through the situation. A second sister was awarded $25,000 for coming to the scene after the accident. The third sister was denied recovery, with no signs of significant mental anguish suffered as a result of her sister's death. On appeal, medical damages were reversed due to the girl's death.
